We are seeking to fill a full-time Regional Director of Advocacy position. This is a professional position with significant responsibility for advocate support, training, supervision and facilitating the provision of quality legal services. It is a regional position covering Broward and Collier Counties. The Advocacy Director's primary functions and duties include ensuring a strategic focus for program litigation and advocacy, providing technical assistance, mentoring, co-counseling, training and strategic support to staff on litigation and systemic advocacy as well as emerging legal advocacy approaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Have direct supervision of all of our Boward county attorneys, but will be accessible to all supervising attorneys and staff attorneys for our company
  • Identify systemic issues that affect clients and develop strategic litigation and/or advocacy approaches to address them, with a focus on priority substantive legal areas.
  • Support, teach, and model effective advocacy and emerging legal advocacy approaches in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and other forums.
  • Identify advocacy-related training needs and develop and conduct staff training related to changes in procedural and substantive law, litigation, and appellate advocacy.
  • Mentor, co-counsel, assist in strategy, drafting, research in all manner of cases, including impact/class action litigation.
  • Oversee Broward Lawyers Care/Pro Bono.
  • Oversee legal work in all substantive units.
  • Assist with nationwide annual summer law internship search and placement program.
  • Oversee the recruitment and placement of volunteers throughout the year.
  • Attend national, state-wide, and local trainings.
  • Review and approve litigation expenses.
  • Identify and facilitate connections across teams and create substantive law groups.
  • Evaluate all Supervising attorneys.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum ten years legal experience as a practicing attorney in a wide variety of civil law areas, with five years of management supervisory experience, ideally in a legal services program.
  • Member of the Florida Bar in good standing.
  • Experience as lead counsel in complex federal litigation highly preferred.
  • Significant experience leading advocacy efforts other than litigation.
