Position Summary
This is a senior leadership position offering significant professional growth opportunities.
The Director of Nursing will work under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officers to provide comprehensive administration of ICU, In-House Registry, Staff Education, Nurse Practitioners, Agency staff, and assigned clinical projects. This role encompasses strategic planning, program and staff development, resource and budget management, quality assurance, and systems oversight. The position assumes 24-hour accountability for unit operations and oversees education and career progression for the entire hospital.
Career Development: After one year of successful performance, this position qualifies for participation in our CNO Training Program, designed to prepare qualified candidates for executive nursing leadership roles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead clinical projects and quality improvement initiatives
- Serve in the CNO role during absences as assigned
- Represent nursing leadership on operational committees and medical staff committees
Clinical Excellence
- Supervise and evaluate the quality of patient care and staff competencies
- Serve as a clinical role model through demonstration of best practices
- Function as a patient advocate and ensure adherence to nursing standards
Team Development
- Develop and mentor nursing management team members
- Facilitate professional development opportunities across the organization
- Maintain full authority for personnel decisions including discipline and termination
Operational Management
- Collaborate with senior executives to define departmental goals and objectives
- Design and adjust staffing patterns based on patient classification data
- Ensure staff assignments align with patient care requirements and regulatory standards
Financial Stewardship
- Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets
- Monitor resource utilization to ensure cost-effectiveness
- Deliver regular financial reports and variance analysis
Compliance and Professional Development
- Maintain compliance with JCAHO, state regulatory bodies, and internal policies
- Participate in professional nursing organizations and peer networks
- Pursue continuing education to maintain clinical and leadership competencies

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred
- Minimum of ten years clinical registered nursing experience
- Minimum of five years progressive leadership experience as a nursing director or administrator
- Demonstrated ability to assess organizational needs, identify problems, and implement effective solutions
- Proven track record of effective leadership and team development
- Current Registered Nurse license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
