Position Summary
The Charge Nurse (Registered Nurse) oversees clinical care on a designated unit during their shift. They supervise nursing staff, coordinate resident care, ensure compliance with care standards, and serve as a liaison between residents, families, and healthcare providers. The Charge Nurse plays a key role in maintaining a high standard of care and a safe, compassionate environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and other staff on the unit.
- Provide direct patient care, including assessments, treatments, and medication administration.
- Develop and update individualized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
- Monitor residents' conditions and report changes to physicians and DON.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with state/federal regulations.
- Participate in admissions, discharges, and transfers of residents.
- Address resident and family concerns promptly and professionally.
- Conduct shift hand-off reports and ensure continuity of care.
- Uphold infection control, safety, and confidentiality standards
- Assist in staff training, performance evaluations, and discipline under the direction of nursing leadership.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills.
- Ability to lead a team effectively and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for SNFs (CMS, OBRA, etc.).
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
- Current RN license in good standing with the state Board of Nursing.
- Minimum of 1–2 years in long-term care or skilled nursing preferred; leadership or supervisory experience a plus.
- CPR/BLS required; ACLS preferred.
