Position SummaryWe are seeking detail-oriented, experienced individuals to join our Health Information Management (HIM) team. As a member of our team, you'll support patient safety, data integrity, and compliance in a collaborative and professional environment. The HIM Technician II is responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, security, and confidentiality of medical records in compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies. This on-site position supports clinical and administrative operations through advanced knowledge of health information systems, regulatory guidelines, and records management best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees record completion and analysis processes, including physician documentation deficiencies and chart completion tracking.
  • Supports coding and billing departments through timely chart assembly and record availability.
  • Prepares and responds to audits, subpoenas, and requests for medical records in accordance with regulatory timelines.
  • Serves as a department resource for EMR access, chart navigation, and troubleshooting.
  • Assists with chart abstraction and data integrity checks to ensure accurate reporting and documentation.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement and compliance activities.
  • Assists with onboarding and training of new HIM staff.
  • Demonstrates a high level of confidentiality, accuracy, and timeliness.

 Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of HIM experience in a hospital or multi-specialty setting.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems (e.g., Meditech, Epic, Cerner) required.
  • Experience with release of information, chart analysis, and audit response preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or related field preferred.
  • RHIT, RHIA, or other AHIMA certification preferred.
